    Luta Livre

    grappling

There are ten principles which many Luta Livre players adhere to and they are:
    1. Systematic repetition is always dangerous: meaning that to keep on attempting a certain technique sooner or later the opponent will be able to read that technique and use it against you. You must try to keep the element of surprise on your side and vary techniques constantly.
    2. An intelligent movement is continuous movement: meaning you must keep moving and not be still, keep changing your position, keep changing your angles of attack and defence in order to make the application of a technique from your opponent very difficult.
    3. If you did not conquer the position, be suspicious of it: meaning that in the throws of grappling if you did not win the position it may be a fein and the same goes if there is a beautiful fruit on the street, it may be spoiled insideso be cautious because your opponent may be giving you the quarter in order to unleash an attack on you.
    4. Finally, you must always be doing something: meaning that you must constantly be strategising, fighting, pushing and moving; if you are not and you are passive your opponent will win the fight regardless of how able you may be, action is the key to success.
